![]() Edwin O. Swann, 91, of "Maxwell Hall", Hughesville, MD died November 4, 2011 at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Born July 18, 1920 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Smiley Caywood Swann and Gertrude Irene Trotter Swann.
Mr. Swann was predeceased by his parents; wife, Marion M. "Bobbie"; sons, Patrick and Michael; brothers, Thomas, Charles and Eugene Swann. He is survived by his son, Peter J. Swann and his wife, Mary; daughter-in-law, Mary Agnes Swann; grandsons, Bryan, Ed, Christopher and Joe; granddaughter, Ivy and great-grandchildren, Katie, Jon, Kody, McKenzie and Zachary. Edwin attended the old Waldorf Elementary School and graduated from LaPlata High School. He worked for Parlette Gas Co. in Waldorf and then for the Naval Ordnance Station. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and saw service on a destroyer in the Pacific Theater. After service duty he managed "The Friendly Tavern" and "Corner Bar" in Waldorf and the "Fairway" Bar in Bel Alton. He was also a delivery person with the Evening Star newspaper for over 20 years. Edwin was also a salesman with J.C.V., Inc and later worked as an Addictions Counselor for the Maryland State Health Department. In his earlier years he was a left-handed baseball pitcher and tried out for a Minor League team. Edwin was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed baseball and football. He was a proud American and always put his family first. He and his wife were most proud of the restoration of "Maxwell Hall", their circa 1680 home near Benedict. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 3:00 - 8:00p.m at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Memorial Service will be held by Chaplain Carl Knower from the John William Trotter/Robert Dean Stetham VFW Post # 8810 at 7:00p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, Benedict, MD at 10:00 a.m. Music before Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will take place at the Huntt Family Cemetery, Waldorf, MD.
