John M. "Jack" Gyorda, Jr., 77, of La Plata, MD, died August 30, 2011, at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD. Born September 3, 1933, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late John M. Gyorda, Sr. and the late Frances Conrad Gyorda.

Mr. Gyorda was a Pharmaceutical Representative for 32 years and a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. As a young man he excelled as an athlete, playing football and basketball in high school and his colleges of Potomac State and Salem colleges. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata and a member of the Port Tobacco Players and held a real estate license in Charles County. He was a former Town Councilman with the Town of La Plata and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2279.

Predeceased by his parents and brother, Andrew F. Gyorda.

Survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia S. Gyorda; sons, Michael Patrick Gyorda of La Plata, MD;John Morelan Gyorda of Leonardtown, MD; daughter, Ann Marie Fuentes of Annapolis, MD; sister, Mary Ann Muckelbauer of FL; two grandchildren, Anthony and Andrew. Also survived by ten nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, September 5, 2011, from 11AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Plata, MD. Fr. John Reutemann will officiate. Pallbearers will be the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Interment will be Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 1PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD.
