Larry Marshall Chappelear, 65, of Mechanicsville, MD died on August 8, 2011 at his residence. Born on October 20, 1945 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Thomas and Joan Anderson Burnette Chappelear.
He was a Professor of Art at CSM and recently retired after 40 years of teaching. He was instrumental in establishing the art programs there and he developed and directed the Walter Grove Art Gallery and Tony Hungerford Gallery. Widely regarded as a highly respected landscape painter, his canvases were exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the country and abroad. Recreationally, he was an avid bow hunter and fly fisherman and also enjoyed vegetable gardening. He was predeceased by a brother, Danny Chappelear. He is survived by his wife, Susan Knight Chappelear, children, Rebecca Harris, Alex Chappelear and wife, Emily, Adam Chappelear and partner, Sara Gahs-Buccheri, and Casey Chappelear, brother, Gregory Burnette and wife, Marcia, grandchildren, Juniper Chappelear and Brandon Harris, and many other relatives and friends. A Life Celebration will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall MD where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 with Chaplin Kimberly McKnight officiating. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace cemetery in Helen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: St. Mary's County Special Olympics, 25926 Whiskey Creek Rd., Hollywood, MD 20636.
