Anna Mae Murphy, 85, of Hughesville, MD, died peacefully at home July 31, 2011. Born August 26, 1925 in Charlotte Hall, MD, she was the daughter of Frank Wood Canter and Marguerite Cecelia Burch Canter.

Anna Mae was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bryantown, MD. She worked as a food service worker for the Charles County Board of Education and retired after 20 years of service. Anna Mae loved to cook and was famous for her pound cake and fried chicken. She also brightened the world with her beautiful flower gardens. Anna Mae will always be remembered for her gentle ways and willingness to help out others in need.

Anna Mae was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Francis W. (Tommy) Canter and Charles R. (Dickie) Canter and sisters, Louise Ryce and Carrie Copsey.

She is survived by her children, Ernest H. Murphy, Jr., Francis W. Murphy (Dorothy - deceased), Patricia A. Stone (Marty) and Gloria J. Stone (Mike); brother, James Canter and sisters, Margaret DeLozier and Elizabeth Huntt; grandchildren, Frank Murphy, William Murphy (Jamie), Angela Stone, Stephanie Stone, Michael Stone (Christina) and Christopher Stone (Stacey); great-grandchildren, Breanne Murphy, Alexandra Murphy, Cora Murphy, Drew Murphy, Gabriella Murphy, Kaleigh Stone, Aidan Stone and Colm Stone.

The family will receive friends for Anna Mae's Life Celebration on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bryantown, MD celebrated by Rev. Rory T. Conley. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Stone, William Murphy, Garry Johnson, Mike Stone, Frank Murphy and Wayne DeLozier; honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Copsey and George Farrell.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church,
