William Edgar Shannon, Jr., 87 of St. Petersburg, FL died July 21, 2011 at his son's residence in Leonardtown, MD. Born March 22, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late William Edgar Shannon and Anna (Garsidy) Shannon. William was a former New York City Firefighter.

William is survived by his wife, Virginia Shannon, his children, Michael Shannon of Matthews, NC, William Shannon of Leonardtown, MD, Kathryn Shannon Faughnan of Newtown, PA and Patti Shannon Lefferts of Rocky Point, NY, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Mitchell.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 2:15 p.m. in Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, FL.
