Margaret "Peggy" Helen Fox Saville of Scientists' Cliffs, MD, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011.

Peggy was born in Windsor, Ontario on August 3, 1928 to Dr. James Harold Fox and Evelyn Joness Fox. The family moved to the United States in 1935, living in Boston, upstate New York, Washington DC, and Arlington VA. Beginning in 1941, the family spent summers at Scientists' Cliffs. She had one brother, James Harold Fox, Jr.

After high school, Peggy planned to attend Cornell University, but returning GIs bumped her admission, so she attended George Washington University as an undergraduate, where her father was Dean of Education. She then moved to New York City to attend Columbia University for her master's degree (extracurricular activities included being on the school's synchronized swimming team).

Following her graduation, she married John Saville and moved with him to Boston, New York City and then back to DC; Peggy taught science and math while John completed his medical residencies and Navy service. They had two children, Christopher and Julie. From 1960 until her retirement in 1986, Peggy lived in Arlington and taught in the Fairfax County schools, teaching seventh- and eighth-grade science and math classes, then becoming a guidance counselor, a guidance director, and an assistance principal. Summers were spent traveling—family trips took her back to Canada and pleasure trips took her to France, Ireland, Alaska and Bermuda, among others.

In 1986, Peggy designed and built a new cabin at Scientists' Cliffs, where she moved full time following her retirement. She became very active in the community and with volunteer work, including volunteering with the One Room Schoolhouse, the Calvert Marine Museum, the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, the League of Women Voters, Meals on Wheels, the Calvert Retired Teachers' Scholarship Fund, and the Prince Frederick Memorial Hospital. Within the Cliffs, she worked on numerous committees and projects throughout the years; she particularly enjoyed helping with the pool and the annual book sale. And after her retirement, her love of traveling expanded to include trips to Russia, Mexico, South Africa, Madagascar, Kenya, Australia, New Zealand and Iceland.

Survivors include Peggy's daughter-in-law, Dianna Saville of Providence, RI; nieces Eve Sandmeyer and Leslie Saville of Silver Spring, MD; and nephews Brandon "Dutch" Fox of Arlington, VA and Michael Fox of Marietta, GA.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23rd at Christ Church, 3100 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, MD, followed by a celebration of Peggy's life at Chestnut Cabin in Scientists' Cliffs.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the One Room Schoolhouse (FORS), P.O. Box 431, Port Republic, MD 20676, or to the Calvert Marine Museum, P.O. Box 97, Solomons, MD 20688.
