Norman Raymond Myers, 89, of Hughesville, MD, formerly of Clinton, MD died June 24, 2011 at his residence. Born March 3, 1922 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of George Amos Myers and Bessie Mae Chaney.

He was a member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Tunisian (North Africa) conflict in 1943. He was captured, put on a ship and sent to Germany. He endured over 2 years as a POW and suffered many hardships. After trying to escape, he was beaten severely by one of the German guards. In February 1945, his camp was marched thru Poland until his released by the British in May 1945. He received the Bronze Star, POW Medal and many other commendations. Upon his return home, he married Helen Louise Bruffy in September 1945 and raised a family. Mr. Myers was an excellent carpenter and built many homes and beautiful furniture during his lifetime.

He was predeceased by his parents and wife of 59 years, Helen L. Myers. He was also predeceased by 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Norman is survived by his children, Brenda M. Lynch (William), Norman R. Myers, Jr. (Barbara), James E. Myers, Kenneth W. Myers (Sherry) and Vivian A. Robinson (Mike); 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for Norman's Life Celebration on Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Brinsfield-Echols. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charles County, P.O. Box 1703, LaPlata, MD 20646.
