Joan Hesson Young, 87, of White Plains, MD, died May 31, 2011, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata, MD.

Mrs. Young was a homemaker and served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. During her earlier years, she acted in local playhouse theaters and loved dancing. She most enjoyed being with her family.

Born July 8, 1923, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Francis Leon Hesson and the late Elizabeth McMeekan Hesson.

Predeceased by her parents.

Survived by her husband of 66 years, William Arthur Young, Jr.; one son, William A. (Anne) Young, III of Oakton, VA; one daugher, Leslie Young Zimmerman of Crofton, MD; one sister, June Hahn of Murrells Inlet, SC. Also survived by two grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Funeral Service and Interment at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 2PM. Coast Guard Chaplain will officiate. Pallbearers will be the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard.
