Commander Danny Roy Smith (USNRet), 60, of Clearwater, Florida and Hughesville, Maryland, died Monday May 16, 2011 at Largo Medical Center, Largo, Florida. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, January 20, 1951 to Louise and Daniel (dec) Smith.

He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Kentucky and Masters Degrees from Naval Post Graduate School and Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

After more than 20 years service as a Supply Corps Officer in the United States Navy, he retired in 2002 and taught business for Strayer University and also worked as a Contracting Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Dan is survived by his wife Barbara, their daughter Megan, mother Louise Smith, sisters Donna Pope (Louis) and Teresa Carter and her children, Richard and Kristyn and his brother Reco Smith.

A Life celebration will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Brinsfield Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, MD with a Memorial service following at 3 p.m.
