![]() Henry Sylvester Spriggs, 70, of Waldorf, Maryland died on May 21, 2011 at the Chesapeake Shores Nursing Home, Lexington Park, Maryland. Born August 11, 1941 in Port Tobacco, Maryland, Sylvester, as he was more affectionately known, was the son of the late Marguerite Matilda and the late George Phillip Spriggs.
Sylvester was educated in the Charles County School System. He then sought employment in New Jersey and resided with his sister, Roberta Jordan for a number of years. Illness precipitated his return home. He loved the outdoors, watching western movies, playing bingo and dominoes, and working with his hands. He loved eating and spending time with his large family. He worked for a variety of employers including: Elite Laundry Service of Newark, New Jersey, Mac's Janitorial Service of La Plata, Mech-Con Construction Company of Indian Head, Naval Ordinance Station of Indian Head and Metro Building Service of Waldorf. For the last 15 years he was employed by Food Lion in La Plata, MD as a service worker. He was proud of his 10 year Certificate that he received in 2004 for Faithful and Loyal Service. He was a participant in the Charles County Freedom Landing Program. There he made many friends and received many awards for social skills, personal growth, excellent attendance and participation, member of the month, and for loyal and outstanding service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Montgomery, brother, Francis Spriggs and sister-in-law, Verla Spriggs. Sylvester or Ves (as he was lovingly called) leaves to cherish his memory six sisters and six brothers. Sisters: Luvenia Montgomery, Roberta Jordan (Cecil), Elizabeth Riley (Jerome), Evelyn Dashiell (Thomas), V. Germaine Farmer (Bill), Eleanor Kitt (Darryl), Shirley Spriggs (sister-in-law) brothers: William Spriggs, John Spriggs (Faye), Edward Spriggs (Melon), Robert Spriggs (Barbara), Harold Spriggs (Rose), and James (Jimmy) Spriggs. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends will also mourn his passing. His viewing will be held on Friday, May 27th, 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00am at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 7865Port Tobacco Road, McConchie, MD. Interment Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Chesapeake Shores Nursing Home, 21412 Great Mills Road, Lexington Park, Maryland 20653 or to the Hospice of St. Mary's, 44724 Hospice Lane, Callaway, Maryland 20620.
