Harold "Jay" Bishop, 61, of Solomons, MD died unexpectedly on December 30, 2006 at Georgetown University Hospital of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, He was currently employed as a Program Manager for Airborne Weapons Training Systems at the Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, MD.

Born December 24, 1945 in Cleveland, OH, he was the oldest son of the late Harold C, Bishop. Sr. and Louise Violet Baesel of Cleveland, OH, In 1964, he went on active duty in the U.S. Navy at Naval Air Station, Grosse He, ML He married the only love of his life Barbara (wilcox) Bishop in Auburn Hills, Michigan on January 20, 1967, Subsequent duty stations included: Naval Air Station, New Orleans, LA, Naval Air Facility Detroit, MI; Naval Air Station New Orleans, LA; and Naval Air Facility Andrews, Washington, D.C. where he retired in 1985 as a Senior Chief Aviation Machinist Mate from the Training and Administration of the Reserves (TAR) Program with 22 years in service.

Harold "Jay" Bishop received a BS degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College, Magna Cum Laude, in 1989; received an MA in Procurement and Acquisition Management in 1991; and received an MBA in 1993 from Webster University with honors.

Mr. Bishop was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Solomons, MD. After being selected to serve on the Board of Corrections for Naval Records, he participated for over 15 years until his death. He was an Associate Member of the Association of Aviation Ordnancemen, Chapter 22; a member of the St. Mary's Genealogy Society; a member of the Mid-Atlantic Germanic Society; a member of the St. Mary's Book Club; and passed eligibility into the Huguenot Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold C. Bishop, Sr. and Louise Violet (Baesel) of Cleveland, OH. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Barbara (Wilcox) Bishop; a son, Jeffery D. Bishop (Angel) of Hughesville, MD and a daughter, Christine Marie Souder (Robert) of Roxboro, NC. Grandchildren include Dayton Cody Bishop, Chloe Gianna and Maya Nicole Souder. He is also survived by a brother, Charles T. Bishop (Laurel) of Cleveland, OH and nephews Lu and Bob. He is the son-in-law to the late Frank B. Wilcox and Virginia E. (Bernhard) of Bloomfield Hills, MI. His is the brother-in-law to James (Vickie) Wilcox, Gerard F. (Polly) Wilcox, David D. Wilcox and Jan G. (Julia) Wilcox.

Jay will be deeply missed by all family and friends for his consistent and overwhelming display of kindness, humor, honesty and wisdom.

The family received friends at the Rausch Funeral Home in Port Republic, MD. A mass celebrating his life was officiated by Father Richard Gardiner on Saturday, 6 January 2007 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Solomons, MD followed by a reception, Internment will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at Arlington National Cemetery.
