![]() Evelyn B. Williams, 90, of Ocala, Florida (1993 - 2010), formerly of Clinton, MD, died Friday, May 13, 2011. She was born June 11, 1920, at Old Providence Hospital in Washington, DC. Evelyn L. "Evie" Burgess married Earle Crawford Williams of Washington, DC on June 17, 1938. They had two daughters, Betty-Lou Williams of Florida, Karen L. Haller (husband Norman) of Mechanicsville, MD.
She lived in Washington with her family until 1953 when they moved to Maryland. They lived in North Forestville, and Clinton. Evie and Earle relocated in Ocala, Florida in 1993, until she lost her beloved husband of 72 years in April 2010. Upon his passing Evie once again lived in Maryland and for the remainder of her life was a resident of Taylor Farms Assisted Living at Bushwood (May 2010 until May 2011). She began working as a cashier at Hogate's Seafood Restaurant down on Main Avenue in Washington, DC, then at Bowling Field Air Force Base in the 1940's, 50's and 60's first at the Bachelors Officers Quarters for a few years, then as an accounts receivable bookkeeper at the Officers Club. After about 15 years, she traded in her office work and became a full time homemaker taking care of her children and husband. She even helped take care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Evie loved taking care of her family including her brothers and sisters when they were younger. She was creative in ceramics, reading romance novels (i.e., Danielle Steel, etc.) and loved listening to music, singing, she even sang for a while with the Sweet Adeline's. Dancing with Earle to all the latest dances was extremely special to her, back in the 30's, 40's and 50's. She also enjoyed being with friends. Preceding her in death were husband Earle C. Williams (4/11/2010) and parents, Brainard Recker Burgess, Sr., Lavinia Reinburg Burgess and her brother William Burgess. Surviving are her daughters Betty-Lou Williams of Florida, Karen L. Haller (Norman) of Mechanicsville, MD. Granddaughter Cynthia (Cindy) Garner, and great-grandsons John (Reggie) Garner (Kelly) great-great grandson Austin Garner, and great-grandson James (Jimmie) Garner (Brittany), great-great granddaughter Kylie, and great-great grandson Brady, grandson Eric Haladik of Florida and his children. Her brothers and sister also survive Evelyn "Sister": Brainard Burgess, (Laura) of Ocean City, John Burgess, (Dolores) of LaPlata, Robert Burgess, (Audrey "Dot") of Ocean Pines and JoAnn Shepherd and husband Carl of Swan Point, MD. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. A life celebration will be held Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 pm at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road (Rt. 5), Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 (301-472-4400). Reverend Ball of Trinity Episcopal Church, St. Mary's City will be presiding. Following the service there will be a reception at the Jameson-Harrison American Legion Post 238, 6265 Brandywine Road, Hughesville, MD. Internment will be private at Maryland's Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, MD. Evie will rest with her beloved husband Earle. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home. |
