Thomas George Konrad, 75, of St. Leonard, MD died Dec, 17, 2006 at his home. He was born Nov. 9, 1931 to the late Frank Konrad and Matilda Bueker in Sigel, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1953 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. After serving 2 years in the Army he was honorably discharged in 1955.

In 1956 he married Mary Jane Smith in Springfield, Illinois. Moving to Silver Spring, MD in 1957, he was hired by the Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University in Columbia Md where he worked for 37 years until his retirement in 1994. While there he conducted tests in radar meteorology and underwater acoustics among others. In 1974 he was appointed to the Principal Professional Staff.

Upon retirement in 1994 he and his wife Mary, moved to St. Leonard, Md. where he was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Volunteer activities included ECHO homeless shelter, SMILE food pantry, Calvert Marine Museum and Hospice among others. Hobbies were varied including woodcarving, golf, sailing, and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary; sons Stephen and Christopher; daughters Catherine Konrad and Patricia Anderson; brother Gerald Konrad and a sister the late Rosella Milligan. He leaves 5 grandchildren. Funeral services and interment were held at St. John Vianney, Prince Frederick, MD on Dec. 19, 2006. Father Peter J. Daly officiated.
