Lena Alice Lear Foltz, 90, of Piney Point, MD and formerly of Falls Church, VA, died on May 9, 2011 at her home. Born September 26, 1920 in Kitzmiller, MD she was the daughter of the late Dorie Cleveland and Mildred Ethel Junkins Lear.

She was the loving wife of her high school sweetheart, Elwood Paul Foltz, whom she married on June 21, 1941 in Central Methodist Church, Arlington, VA.

Mrs. Foltz is survived by her children; Ronald Foltz (Nancy) of Sterling, VA, Donald Foltz (Pam) of Fort Valley, VA and Linda Russell (Sheldon) of Valley Lee, MD. She is also survived by her brothers; James Howard Lear of Bumpass, VA and Robert Lear of Springfield, VA. Mrs. Foltz was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Elwood Foltz as well as siblings; Rosemary Louise Webley, Edgar Clarend Lear and Dorie C. Lear, Jr.

Mrs. Foltz attended Stonewall Jackson Elementary School and Washington and Lee High Schools in Arlington, VA. While in high school she played baseball and field hockey and was a platoon sergeant in the Cadet Corps. After her graduation on June 11, 1940, she worked at the Arlington County Courthouse in the Clerk's office. In later years she worked as a manager of the Aristo Cleaners in Falls Church, VA and was also a Resident Manager of Gainsborough Court Apartments in Fairfax, VA and Park Towers Apartments in Falls Church, VA.

Mrs. Foltz was very active in the Central Methodist Church while living in Arlington, VA. She was a counselor of the youth fellowship group, superintendent of the kindergarten children, choir mother and Sunday school teacher. She also served as Cub Scout den mother for many years during her time in Arlington. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Women's Group at Central, Fairfax, VA and St. George Island United Methodist Churches. Mrs. Foltz also belonged to the local St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and was an active member for many years during the time she was able. A favorite pastime has always been sending cards and notes to family and friends to keep in touch and let them know how special they were in her life. She loved making crafts, cooking, and sharing meals with friends and family. Mrs. Foltz was a strong inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 5:30 – 8:00 PM in St. George Island United Methodist Church were prayers will be recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM in St. George Island United Methodist Church, Piney Point, MD with Pastor Keith Schukraft and Pastor John Wunderlich officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
