Steven Gary Hampton, 60 of La Plata, Md. Died on March 27, 2011 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, VA. Born September 17, 1950 in Washington, DC. He is the son of the late Robert E. and Mary Katherine Hampton.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Michele Rose Hampton, daughters Crissy Hindle and her husband Chris, Laura Herrle and her husband Ricky, April Mahon and her husband Ryan, sisters Sandra and her husband Kenny, Janice and her husband Bobby, Teresa and her husband Butch, Carol, Susie and her husband Biff, brothers Tommy and wife Sandy, Kenny and Mike, grandchildren Riley Grainger, Drew and Matthew Hindle, Emily and Molly Herrle.

He is predeceased by brother Buddy Hampton and sister Barbara Tiley.

After attending Bladensburg High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably for 2 years. In 1978 he received a bachelors degree in Law Enforcement from the American University in Washington, DC. He was a member of the MNCPPC Park Police Mounted unit serving 27 years and retiring at the rank of captain. His passions were his grandchildren, the redskins, Maryland Terrapins and playing a round of golf with family and friends whenever there was an open tee time.

The family will receive friends on Thursday March 31, 2011 at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata, Md. from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm with a funeral service at 7:30pm. Interment will be on Friday April 1, 2011 11am at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, Md.
