William Francis "Bill" Combs, 87, of Mechanicsville, MD, died February 14, 2011 at his residence. Born August 22, 1923 in St. Mary's County, MD, he was the son of the late Paul Eugene and Lily May (Combs) Barnes.

He was the husband of the late Mildred M. "Crouse" Combs whom he married on April 21, 1961 in St. Mary's County, MD. Mr. Combs is also survived by his companion, and long time friend Ann Sally Crouse. He is also survived by his children; Wayne Combs (Wanda) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, William E. Combs (Shelly) of Port St. Lucie, FL Virginia Jones (Charles) of Newland, NC, and sister Mary Cathrine Clarke of Hollywood, MD, brother in law Ralph Pegg of Lexington Park, MD as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his siblings; Loucille Pegg of Lexington Park, MD.

Bill graduated from Margret Brent High School, Morganza, MD in 1942 and on July 20, 1945 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps departing on August 24, 1946. He was an insurance salesman for People's Life Insurance Company for 25 years and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County. He enjoyed crabbing and fishing.

The family will receive friends on Thursday February 17, 2011 from 5:00PM - 8:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be recited at 7:00PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD with Deacon Lou Koeniger officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Hollywood, MD. Pallbearers will be Scottie Combs, Jamie Jone, Greg Buckolz, Charlie Jones, George Cardais, and Bobbie Martin.
