David Nils Christianson, 63, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Washington, D.C. died February 9, 2011 at Civista Medical Center. Born April 21, 1947 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Frederick Henry Christianson and Marie Nilson Christianson.

David was a loving and devoted husband and father who loved the ocean, the beach and travelling. He served his country well in the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War and received many honors. David also served in the Merchant Marines for 10 years. He worked as an Engineer for the Architect of the Capital for 25 years, retiring in 2006. To relax, he enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Besides his parents David was predeceased by his brother, Norman Christianson and sister, Dorothy Neville. He is survived by his wife, Janet Marie Shegogue Christianson; sons, Eric Norman Christianson and Jason Edward Downing (Tina); sister, Audrey Hartz; sister-in-law, Joann Christianson; grandson, Christian David Downing and many other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service followed by burial will be held Friday, February 18, 2011 at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 11:00a.m. Pastor Todd Crofford will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Rt. #3 North, Bldg. A, Gambrills, MD 21054.
