Jesse Austin Denney Jr., 71, of St. George Island died Jan. 24, 2011, in Leonardtown.

Born Nov. 28, 1939, in Windsor, Ontario, he was the son of the late Jesse Austin Denney Sr. and Muriel Jackson Thompson. He was the husband of the late Lena Marie "Baby Lena" Poe Denney, whom he married July 5, 1968.

After graduating from high school, Mr. Denney served four tours of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Navy. He later worked for and retired from Dyncorp in Solomons. He enjoyed camping, darts, traveling, playing cards (poker and blackjack), drinking Miller Genuine Draft and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his brother, Glenn Thompson of Florida; and his daughter-in-law, Joyce Thompson of Florida; his sons, Glen Walter Denney of Mechanicsville, Lance Denney of New York and Jesse Denney III of Las Vegas; his daughters, Muriel Willis of Hollywood; his stepdaughter, Mary Edna Norris of Old Town, Fla.; his sons-in-law, Richard Willis of Hollywood and Mark Norris of Old Town; his daughters-in-law, Mary Jane Moore of Mechanicsville and Gina Denney of Mechanicsville; his grandchildren, Dwayne Norris, Dale Moore Jr., Joshua Moore, Tanya Bottorf, Shane Bottorf, Mindy Sue Moore, Lucas Denney, Jessica N. Denney, Jessica G. Denney, Justin Moore, Tayler Denney and Kylee Denney.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Denney was preceded in death by his stepson, Dale Jerome Moore; and his sister and brother-in-law, Christine Pope and Chuck Pope.

Services will be private.
