![]() John Calvin Wood Sr., 81, of St, Leonard Md. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his residence in St. Leonard. He was born on July 13, 1929 in St. Leonard to Edward G. Wood and Katie L Weems Wood.
He is predeceased by his siblings Roy E Wood, Bertie Buehler, Alton Ray Wood, Marie Weems, Mae Woodward, George Philip Wood, and Thomas Claude Wood. He was married to Ethel Ruth Brooks on August 11, 1950 in Bethesda, Md. Mr. Wood was an avid farmer in the tobacco industry and also had partnership with his brothers in Wood Brothers Lumber Co. In later years he started an excavation business with his son, John Jr., and the business thrives today as J.Calvin Wood Jr., Inc. Hobbies included fishing, hunting and playing pool with his buddies. He was also a member of Prince Frederick Masonic lodge, 32nd degree Mason and Shriner and also a member of The Boumi Temple. He is survived by his wife Ethel; his four children-Laura Wood Bowen, her husband Tim of Lusby, Joanie Wood Parkin, her husband Dave of Pinellas Park, Fla., John C Wood, Jr., his girlfriend Michele Bowen of St. Leonard and Lisa Wood of Lusby; his nine grandchildren -Michael Bowen, his wife Elizabeth of Lusby, Michelle Bowen of Lexington Park, Summer Moon and her husband Cory of St. Petersburg, Fla., Lauren, Chelsea and Logan Lipsch of Pinellas Park, Fl. Heather McDaniel and her husband Charlie of St Leonard, Crystal Bowen of St Leonard and Ashley Farrugia of Lusby; and his 6 great-grandchildren - Pauline, Trevor and Alexis Bowen of Lusby; and Jason, Jacob and Monica Bowen of Lexington Park. He leaves behind his loyal little pride and joy, his poodle "Angel". In celebration of his life, visitation will be held at Rausch Funeral Home in Port Republic on Friday January 28, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Port Republic by Father John Howanstine, Jr. on Saturday, January 29th at 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Asbury Cemetery in Barstow. Pallbearers are Tim Bowen, Steve Cratty, John Gott Jr., Jimmy Holesapple, Gary Rymer, Mark Buckler, Ronald Wood and Thomas Smith.
