![]() SKINNER, LEVITICUS MAGDALINE ERNESTINE (MOORE) "MAGGIE" AGE 75 OF WALDORF, MARYLAND. Leviticus Magdaline Ernestine (Moore) Skinner, departed this life peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 18, 2011 at the Washington Home and Hospices in Washington, D.C.
Maggie as she was more affectionately called, was the 13th child of 19 born to respected church and civic leaders Peter L. Moore and Alice R. Pinkney Moore, on December 16, 1935, in Brandywine, Maryland. She was baptized at a young age at Asbury United Methodist Church (Brandywine). As a young adult she enjoyed worshiping at different churches with her parents, singing in the choir, as well as the singing & praying band. She joined the Episcopal Church in 1960. Maggie graduated from Douglas High School and the Atlanta Business College. She continued to take academic courses at American University and Prince George's Community College. She was united in marriage to James Skinner and from this union two children were born: Anthony and Bernadette. Maggie was a devoted wife and mother. Maggie worked for the Federal Government and retired December 1990, with over 35 years of faithful service. She was then employed with the Maryland Board of Education as a Part-time Administrative Assistant. Maggie had a passion for serving the church and community. She served on the Hillside Civic Association for several years, and as an election volunteer. She faithfully served as an usher, Sunday School Teacher, Coffee hour hostess and Social & Cultural Committee member. She also served with the Daughters of the King and Episcopal Church Women ministries. Some of her favorite hobbies included Bowling on the Wednesday Seniors Mixed Bowling League. (She once served as Treasurer for several years on the Weekend Warriors Bowling League), and Water aerobics. Maggie enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was dependable, well organized, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a mentor and a strong witness of the Gospel to many. Maggie is survived by her, loving, caring, and devoted son, Anthony (Sylvia) and daughter, Bernadette (Neil), three devoted grandsons, Steven, Andre', Jason, and one loving and devoted granddaughter, Alexis, one uncle, Booker Moore, seven loving and supportive sisters, Mary Elizabeth White, Ruth Tyese Simms, Geneva Manns, Sylvia Bouyer, Helen Holbert, Mildred Wooten(James), Piccola Moore, three devoted bothers, Milton (Virginia), Peter, Jr. (Ernestine) and Wilson, God children, Carlton Bouyer and Sheena Berry, friends like children, Vicki Browning, Elizabeth Ann Joyner, April Cartwright, Barry Keaton and Jody Roberts and a host of other loving relatives and friends. The Viewing for Maggie will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 9am until time of Service, 11am at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 3601 Alabama Avenue, S.E., Washington, D.C. Her Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Suitland, Maryland. Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, Maryland. |
