Joseph Elmer "Joe" Snell, Sr., 88, of Waldorf, MD, died January 17, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Snell was a Dairyman with Embassy Dairy and Thompson's Dairy for 52 years and a Mail Handler at Union Station in Washington, DC for 20 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf, MD. Always worked two jobs all his life, had good work ethics that he passed on to his family, and was a loving father.

Born December 9, 1922, in Radford, VA, he was the son of the late Hayes Wesley Snell and the late Etta DeHart Snell.

Predeceased by his parents; his late wife, Juanita Snell.

Survived by son, Joseph E. Snell, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Chevy Chase, MD; daughters, Alva C. Snell of Washington, DC; Mary Etta and her husband Ronald Witherspoon of Silver Spring, MD; sister, Addie Slaughter of Radford, VA. Also survived by seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 22, 2011, from 10 AM until service time at 11 AM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD.

Interment will take place on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 11 AM at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD with full Army Honors.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the United States Army Honor Guard.
