Margaret Evelyn Thompson, age 85, of Arlington, VA died January 10, 2011 at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington VA. Born November 19, 1925 in Washington, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Katie (Hatrick) Knezovich.

Evelyn graduated from Springdale High School in Springdale, PA and attended the Charles County Community College. She moved to Washington, DC on her eighteenth birthday in 1943.

She married Joseph Mulry Thompson, Jr. on August 11, 1944 in Washington, D.C. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2001.

Evelyn spent 34 years in Arlington, VA raising a family before retiring to St. Mary's County in 1977. She returned to Arlington in 1986.

She held multiple jobs in the Washington Metro area including: telephone operator at the Washington Times Herald Newspaper, secretary at the Thompson Electric Company (with her husband), Arlington County crossing guard, library assistant at the Lundenburg School of Seamanship in Piney Point, MD, numerous retail sales jobs, babysitting, proctoring, and many volunteer activities with the Democratic Party and the Arlington Seniors.

Evelyn is survived by one son, Joseph M. Thompson III of Piney Point, MD; and three daughters: Jane A. Nau of Leonardtown, MD, Carolyn M. Cullison (Francis) of St. George Island, MD, and Mary Lou Burke (Patrick J. Kennedy) of Falls Church, VA, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and numerous nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery, 19199 St. George's Church Road, Valley Lee, MD 20692.

A Memorial Service will be held in Arlington at a later date.

Serving as pallbearers will be David A. Nau, Joseph M. Thompson IV, John N. Burke, Austin Cullison, Francis Cullison, and Patrick Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers include Shaun Kennedy, Bobby Bean, and Ryan Nau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of Evelyn's favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
