The Reverend Doctor Eugene Eager Wood, 81, of California, MD died September 17, 2006 in St. Mary's Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.

Born in Newport News, VA May 12, 1925, he was the son of the late Eugene Eager Wood and Charlotte Ayler Wood.

Dr. Wood graduated with a B.A. from the College of William and Mary in 1946. He attended the Virginia Theological Seminary and graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1949. In 1950 he earned a Master of Sacred Theology from Andover Theological School in Boston and in 1955 gained a Doctor of Theology from Boston University.

Dr. Wood was ordained to the priesthood in 1950 to serve in the Diocese of Southern Virginia serving as assistant minister at Trinity Church. In 1966 Dr. Wood served as a Fellow at the Psychiatric Center of Utrecht, Holland and in 1973 as a Fellow at the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, MA.

Dr. Wood served as Rector of Christ Church, Lima Ohio from 1955 – 1960; Rector to the Church of the Atonement 1962 – 1976 and became Rector to Middleham and St. Peter's Parish in Solomon's Island, MD in 1976.

Dr. Wood is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nell Woodall Wood and his son James Ayler Wood.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, California, MD. The Reverend Paula Halliday will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
