![]() Norman Franklyn Gibbs, 85 of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Edgewater, MD, died November 27, 2010 at his residence. Born June 26, 1925 in Maryland Park, MD, he was the son of Carlos Dana Gibbs and Ethel Elizabeth Steele Gibbs.
Mr. Gibbs served in the United States Navy during World War II as a seaman. He worked as an elevator mechanic and was a member of Local 10 Elevator Constructors Union, retiring in 1985. He loved music, sports, woodworking and gardening. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He also loved having family get togethers with his children and grandchildren. Besides his parents, Mr. Gibbs was predeceased by siblings, William Gibbs, Carlos Gibbs, Jr., Robert Gibbs, Evelyn Proctor, Jennie Molitor and Betty Long. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Phyllis J. Gibbs; sons, Norman F. Gibbs, Jr. of Owings, MD, Gary Wayne Gibbs of Woodstock, MD and Bart Douglas Gibbs of Mechanicsville, MD; daughters, Beverly Joyce Stafford of Unionville, VA, Norma Janice Shutt and and Betty Jean Gibbs , both of Waldorf, MD, Joan Elaine Huntington of Manassas, VA, Judith Anne Hamilton of Hallandale Beach, FL and Vera Mae Smith of Charlotte, NC; 24 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends for Norman's Life Celebration on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A service will be held at Brinsfield-Echols on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. conducted by Pastor Shelley Polk. Interment will take place at Lakemont Memorial Park, 904 West Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of one's choice.
