![]() On November 6, 2010, Kevin Patrick Conron, age 57, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away. A journalist and long-time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Benedict, Maryland, Kevin was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on October 10, 1953.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Keating Conron, his daughter Colleen Mary Conron, who is studying nursing at Marymount, and her mother, Barbara Conron, of Bethlehem, PA¸ and his siblings: John (Kathleen) of Arlington, Virginia, Brian (Maria) of Richmond, Virginia, Patrick (Catherine) of Alexandria, Virginia and Kathleen Whelan (Bill) of Charlottesville, Virginia. He was predeceased by his son, Sean Conron in 2002, and his father, John Conron, in 2010. Kevin graduated from Benedictine High School in Richmond, Virginia in 1971and from George Washington University in 1980, with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Kevin worked for Southern Maryland newspapers, first as a political reporter for the Maryland Independent, then as editor of the Calvert Recorder. Later, he was business editor of the Maryland Independent, St. Mary's Enterprise, and the Calvert Recorder. Kevin was on the St. Francis deSales Parish Council for many years, and Chairman for six years. His favorite church activity was the fall and spring Oyster Roast. He served for five years as advisor for the Washington Diocese newspaper, The Catholic Standard. In 2002, Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick awarded Kevin the Order of Merit for service to his parish and to the Archdiocese of Washington. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church on Friday, November 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m.. Inurnment will take place at Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD in St Mary's County after the funeral.
