Herbert Lewis Keyser, age 90, a resident of the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, MD passed away November 1, 2010 at the home with his daughter Sylvia Keyser at his side. Herb was born January 28, 1920 in Petersburg, VA to Lewis Harold and Esther Victoria (Pritchett) Keyser.

He was raised in Roanoke, VA where he graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1938. He attended college in Washington, D.C. for two years and then served as a Private in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his discharge he worked as a maintenance supervisor, and upon earning his First Class Steam Engineer License in the mid 1960's, he worked at the Sheraton Park Hotel and Catholic University in their heating and boiler plants. He was later employed by the District of Columbia government as a supervisor of environmental services, retiring in 1994.

In his leisure time Herb enjoyed singing karaoke, was an accomplished ballroom dancer, and was fond of traveling, having visited Alaska, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico. Herb loved being a member of Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church, and was also a member of AMVets, American Legion Post 135, and the Elks and Moose Lodges.

Herb was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Phipps Keyser; sisters Elizabeth A. Bacino and Marilyn L. Segnari; and brothers James W. and John H. Keyser.

He is survived by his devoted daughter Sylvia C. Keyser of Owings, MD; grandchildren Joe Paul Blanks of Baltimore, MD and Sylvia C. Marohn of the Pocono's, PA; and great-grandchildren Joseph E. Blanks and Erika Marohn.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 Noon until 1:00 PM Monday November 8, 2010 at Mt. Harmony U.M. Church, 155 East Mt. Harmony Road, Owings, MD. A funeral service and celebration of Herb's life will follow at 1:00 P.M., officiated by Reverend Sandra S.W. Taylor.
