Catheryn May Slater, 91, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Arnold, MD died October 24, 2010 at Hospice House in Callaway, MD. Born March 7, 1919 in Jones Station, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. Chaney and Elizabeth Bullen Chaney and the wife of the late Austin J. Slater, Sr.

Catheryn was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting gifts for family and friends, cooking - especially making breads and soups, and reading novels. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Besides her parents and husband Catheryn was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Chaney; a sister, Ruth Chaney and grandson, Neale Chaney Slater. She is survived by her sons, James Harry Slater (Cathy) and Austin Joseph Slater, Jr. (Carmen); daughter, Linda Elizabeth Trickey (Ken); sisters, Hannah Prince (Bob), Dorothy Berry, India Jarnagin and Helen Gardner; grandchildren, Pamela, Susan, Kathy, Terri, Jenny, Kim, and Samantha; great grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Catherine, Elizabeth, Ben, and Ian.

The family will receive friends for Catheryn's Life Celebration on Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 29, 2010 at 1:00P.M. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 78 Church Rd., Arnold, MD 21012 conducted by Pastor Roger Carlson. Interment will follow at the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
