Mr. Cortes was a Machine Operator for 45 years with Easton-Allen Paper Company in New Jersey and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Newark, NJ. He loved baseball, boxing and cars. He was always known for helping others in his community. He was a wonderful father and husband.

He was the son of the late Nicolas Cortes and the late Epifania Erazo Cortes

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margarita Montalvo Cortes; two sons, Christopher Cortes and Jose Hernandez, both of New Jersey; three daughters, Martha, Elizabeth, and Anna Hernandez, all of New Jersey; two brothers, Monserrate and Rafael Cortes; and one sister, Carmen Cortes. Also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 from 5-8pm at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

Fr. Ron Potts will officiate.

Interment will be private at a later date.
