Mr. Mathews was a Retired Colonel with the United States Army and Special Forces with 41 years of service and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He received a Master's Degree from Howard University.

Son of the late Fleming Wilson Mathews, Jr. and the late Alfreda Simonelli Mathews.

Predeceased by his parents.

Survived by his wife of 43 years, Carole Victoria Benton Mathews; sons, Ian Fleming Mathews and Alexander Keith Mathews; daughter, Nichole Dawnyel Mathews; brother, Peter Mathews; and sisters, Judy Vader, Elizabeth Mathews, and Elisa Mathews. Also survived by 4 grandchildren: Brianna, Nicholas, Zachary, and Ian.

Visitation: Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 2-4PM with a funeral service at 4PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

Honorary Pallbearers: United States Army Honor Guard.

Interment: Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA on December 13, 2010.
