Miriam M. Plantz, 91, of La Plata died September 4, 2010, at her home. Her beloved husband of 56 years, John B. Plantz, died in 2008.
Mrs. Plantz was a food service manager with the Charles County Board of Education from 1951 to 1981. After retirement, she was a member of the camping club, The Friendly Maryland Travelers. She was a World War II veteran and served as a Technical Sergeant in the Woman's Army Corps. Following the War, she worked in food services for the Wrangell Institute, an orphanage for Native American children, in Wrangell, Alaska. Born Jan. 23, 1919, in Wellsville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mabel and Ferman Myers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Geraldine Marks and Theda Wise, and her brothers, Ray Myers, Darryl Myers and Cloyd Myers. She is survived by her son, Bernard Plantz of Holland, Pa.; daughter, Debbie Sullivan of Newport; grandchildren, Jennifer Plantz, Kristen Plantz and Hanna Plantz; daughter-in-law, Laura Plantz of Holland; and son-in-law, John Sullivan of Newport. Visitation will be held on September 9, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., with prayers at 7:30 p.m., at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on September 10 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home. The Rev. Reg Watson will officiate. Burial will take place at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf.
