Raymond F. "Brownie" Brown, 78, of Hughesville, MD, died August 19, 2010, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC.

Raymond Francis Brown "Brownie" graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1950 and joined the Armed Services completing his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base. Ray then went to work for C&P Telephone Company until January 1, 1951, when he was activated into the Air Force. He worked in Air Operations and was a Senior Air Operations Specialist. Raymond completed his two year hitch in the Air Force and returned to C&P retiring in December 1996. During these years with C&P he worked as a messenger, coin box collector, C.O. Frameman, Installer, Repairman, PBX Installer and PBX Repair. Ray worked 47 years with C&P Telephone Company which changed its name about five times, American Bell, ATT Information System, ATT and Lucent Technologies.

Raymond was also President of the Communication Workers of America Local 2336 for seven years and Vice President many more years before that representing as many as 6500 workers in the Metro Washington DC area. It was a new era for the Union that Raymond represented as C&P had to face walk-outs and strikes. Raymond loved trying to help other people.

Born October 21, 1931, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late William Francis Brown and the late Thelma Irene Taylor Brown.

Predeceased by his parents.

Survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara M. Baucom-Brown; sons, Richard and his wife Eileen Brown; Raymond "Butch" Brown; daughter, Donna and her husband Robert Conley. Also survived by six grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Raymond, Barbara "Shellie", Kelly and Heather; eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from 11AM to 1PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 24, 2010, beginning at 1PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Tim Bean will officiate.

Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11331 Amherst Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902.
