George Thomas Hutchinson of Bel Alton, formerly of Waldorf, MD, died July 31, 2010 after a short illness. Born July 16, 1929 to George and Mary Dysko Hutchinson in Westbury, Long Island, NY.

Educated and graduated from Westbury High School in 1947, he entered the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes Naval Training Center; he served in the 23rd Transport Division during the Korean War. After his discharge from the service, he and his new bride, Beverly Wylie, also of Westbury, settled in Syossett, Long Island and had 2 children. Mr. Hutchinson was a member of the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department from 1953 to 1963; he achieved the rank of Deputy Chief prior to moving to Maryland. He was also a member of the department's racing team.

Mr. Hutchinson worked as an Electrical Engineer for ABASCO Service of New York on such projects as Project Mercury. After Project Mercury, he worked for Vorees-Walker-Smith-Smith-Haines-Lundberg-Wahler & Becardi of New York at the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, MD. The family moved to Derwood, MD in 1963; the family later moved to Waldorf in 1978. Mr. Hutchinson also worked for Truland Electric, Vosbee-Kendrick & Redinger, and retired from Golden Engineering. After retiring, Mr. Hutchinson formed his own consulting company, G&B Engineering.

Mr. Hutchinson was preceded by his wife of 55 years, Beverly D. Wylie Hutchinson; his parents, George and Mary Dysko Hutchinson, his step-mother, Frances Roper Hutchinson; sister-in-law and her husband, F. Eileen Wylie and James Greenlees.

Mr. Hutchinson is survived by his son and daughter-in-law with whom he resided, Thomas J. and Phyllis A. Hutchinson; daughter, Kim S. Cook of Spanaway, WA; grandchildren: Rebecca, Joshua (U.S. Army) of Bel Alton, Taylor of Olympia, WA; Amanda Cook of Spanaway, WA, and Kenneth Cook and his wife, Mindy, and great-granddaughter, Abigail of Tacoma, WA.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 2 PM at MD Veterans' Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD with Chaplin George L'Heureaux officiating. Life celebration will follow at the Bel Alton Volunteer Fire Department.
