Harold Lee Hancock, 84, of La Plata, MD, died July 27, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Hancock was first a foremost a farmer in Charles County having been born and raised on the farm he continued to work all his life. He also worked many years in housing construction and put the roof on the La Plata United Methodist Church where he was a lifetime member. In later years he was an inspector with the Charles County Government working from age 62 to 84 and was awarded "Oldest Worker in the State". He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, playing cards and dancing.

Born March 9, 1926, in Newtown, MD, he was the son of the late William Walter Hancock and the late Esther Leigh Cooksey Hancock.

Predeceased by his parents; son, Matthew William Hancock.

Survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Ann McDonagh Hancock; sons, Donald James and his wife Debbie Hancock of La Plata, MD; Michael John and his wife Sherri Hancock of La Plata, MD; Gerald Thomas and his wife Kay Hancock of La Plata, MD; daughter, Kathryn Dyson of Tulsa, OK; brother, Chester Hancock of La Plata, MD; sister, Hazel Burton of Bethesda, MD. Also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 30, 2010, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at La Plata United Methodist Church.

Funeral Service will be on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 10AM at La Plata United Methodist Church.

Rev. Bruce Jones will officiate.

Interment will be at La Plata United Methodist Church Cemetery, Dentsville, MD.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Padgett, Ray Buckler, Wayne Hancock, Michael Hancock, Jr., Brian Hancock, and Gregory Reilly.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Keith, Thomas and Ronnie Hancock, Mike Reilly, and Charlie Quade.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charles County, P.O. Box 1703, La Plata, MD 20646 or La Plata United Methodist Church.
