Rodger Allan Nelson, 56 of Piney Point, MD, formerly of Laurel, MD, died on July 12, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.

Born on April 9, 1954 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Joseph Edward Nelson and Elizabeth Gene Nelson-Potter.

Rodger was a distributor for Wise Potato Chips, a hospital courier and the Facilities Manager for Island Engineering before becoming disabled. He enjoyed cooking, fishing and was an avid Redskin and Orioles fan.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, April Star Keates, Jason Adam Nelson, Brandon Alexander Nelson, Sara Allisonn Nelson, siblings, Shelia Jean Nelson, Betty Jo Barbeau, Marion Lavenia McFann, Hooper Regan Nelson, step-siblings Dorothy Ann Howells, Joyce Parson, Woodrow James Potter Jr., grandchildren, Julia Marie Keates, Matthew Ryan Keates, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rodger is preceded in death along with his father by siblings, Timothy Edward Nelson, Daniel Benjamin Nelson, Sharon Lee Nelson and Randal Scott Nelson.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. at 45972 O'Connors Lane, St. Georges Island, MD.
