Marie M. Ely, 100, of Waldorf, Maryland passed away on July 7, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, following a fall and hip replacement surgery.

Born on June 12, 1910 in Bloomington, Illinois where she grew up, married, and raised a family of four children. She moved to Maryland many years ago to be with her daughter, Doris White and son-in-law, Kenneth White.

Mrs. Ely was a homemaker and member of the La Plata United Methodist Church. She was a quiet, soft-spoken, kind-hearted Christian person. She introduced her children to Sunday school and church early on. She enjoyed helping others, attending family functions and spending time with her friends and family. She also enjoyed various craft work and gardening in her earlier years. Mrs. Ely was a big Washington Redskins fan and liked to watch their games. She saw many changes over her years and delighted in celebrating her 100th birthday in June with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, her sisters in Illinois and one son, William Ely, of Jacksonville, Florida, preceded Mrs. Ely in death. Mrs. Ely is survived by three of her children…one daughter, Doris White, and her husband, Kenneth White, of La Plata, Maryland, another daughter, Shirley Ray, of Jacksonville, Florida, and one son, Gerald Ely, of Bluffton, S.C. (formerly of Springfield, VA.), 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation and funeral service will be held on July 20, 2010 at the La Plata United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 am. Rev. Bruce Jones will officiate. Interment is too following at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD.
