Ecclesiastes 3:1 On Thursday July 1, 2010, at Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. God in His infinite wisdom, called from labor to reward His beloved son Corey Michael Terron Thomas. Corey was born February 22, 1996 in Jacksonville, Florida to Kenyuatta Jones and the late Corey Thomas. He was educated in the Public School Systems of Jacksonville, Florida; Beaufort, South Carolina; Yorktown, Virginia; and St Mary's County Maryland. In August 2009, Corey was diagnosed with Brain Cancer. After his surgery, he spent two months between the hospital and rehabilitation. He made remarkable improvements in regaining normalcy in his speech, walking, and overall daily life. He continued with speech, occupational, and physical therapies refining his abilities. His medical team was impressed with his progress, great smile, and outstanding attitude. Corey loved making family and friends laugh and enjoyed emailing and speaking on the phone to update others about improvements in his fight against brain cancer. He was very enthusiastic about his home schooling and made every effort to exceed expectations. His goal was to reenter Leonardtown Middle School and be with his friends and teachers. Regretfully, after chemotherapy, radiation, and numerous medications, the cancer continued its insidious progression unabated. Even with the challenge of taking new powerful medications and increased difficulty with speech and walking, Corey greeted each day with a smile and the determination of a champion. He loved his family, and as the big brother, he continued to ensure order between his siblings and provided them with good advice. He loved when the family would gather for activities and ever the comedian, he ensured his cheerfulness permeated the event. Corey never uttered a word of complaint even under the most stressful circumstances. He was courageous and his strength embodied until the end. On Sunday June 6, 2010 Corey publicly committed his life to Jesus and was baptized on Saturday June 12, 2010 by Pastor Roderick McClanahan at First Missionary Baptist Church. He leaves precious memories with his mother Kenyuatta Jones and stepfather Larry Jones; brothers, Michael, David and Paco; sister, Kenya; grandparents, Michael and Juwana Broadus; aunt, Anquineta Plazz and uncle, Tyler Broadus. Family will receive friends at First Missionary Baptist Church 47359 Lincoln Ave, Lexington Park, Maryland at 7pm on Thursday July 8, 2010. Rev. R.W. McClanahan, Pastor. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield Funeral Home. |
