Sophie Basak, age 86, of Prince Frederick, MD died June 20, 2010 at Burnett – Calvert Hospice House. She was born in Detroit, MI October 22, 1923 to Andrew and Josephine (Frances) Borys.

She grew up in Hamtramck, MI and was married to Stanley Basak on August 6, 1949 in St. Ladislaus Church in Hamtramck.

Sophie was employed for the former Co American Bank in Detroit before retiring in 1988. She moved to Maryland in 2005 first with her daughter in Brandywine and settled in Prince Frederick. Through the years Sophie enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her roses in Michigan, knitting and bingo. She was a member of St. John Vianney Church and the Polish National Alliance.

Sophie was preceded in death by her husband Stanley on November 13, 2003.

Surviving are her son Paul Basak and his wife Ginny of Clarksville, VA and her daughter Patricia DiSandro and her husband John of Brandywine, MD and a grandson Nick DiSandro of Brandywine, MD.
