Betty G. Long of Accokeek, Maryland died on September 13, 2006 at Fort Washington Hospital in Fort Washington, MD. She was 80 years old.

Born on July 23, 1926 in Washington, DC to the late Ethel E. Steele and Carlos D. Gibbs. She graduated from Maryland Park High School, Class of 1945 and later attended college in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Long, in her younger years played sports and worked as an administrative clerk for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (I.B.E.W.). She was involved with the Post-Cana group at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf, MD and enjoyed watching Baltimore Orioles baseball and Washington Redskins Football. She was a breast cancer survivor and a member of the Catholic faith who attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Piscataway, MD.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Allan Kenneth Long Sr.; son Allan Kenneth Long Jr.; three sisters; three brothers.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy and her husband Rick Roberts of Waldorf, MD; son Donald and his wife Heather Long of Charlotte Hall, MD; brother Norman and his wife Phyllis Gibbs of Mechanicsville, MD; grandchildren Dawn and her husband Ronnie Rowe of Waldorf, MD, Eric Long of Charlotte Hall, MD, Kyle Roberts of Waldorf, MD, Keith Mitchell and Laura Marek of Fairfax, VA; great granddaughter Shania Mitchell of Fairfax, VA.

Family to receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2006 from 5PM to 8PM at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road Charlotte Hall, MD where Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 1PM. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, Maryland.
