On Saturday, April 10, 2010, Joan Marie Newton of LaPlata, Maryland quietly departed this life for one eternal at the Civista Medical Center. Joan was born on August 2, 1940 in Bryantown, Maryland to the late Mary E. Dorsey-Johnson and the late Joseph Patrick Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her son, Oscar, Jr. and her husband, Oscar, Sr. Left to mourn her loss but cherish many memories are her two daughters, Gale Fenwick and Tara Brown, three grandchildren, Joseph Fenwick, Jr., Jamaica (Jamie) Bea, and William (CJ) Brown, Jr., two sons-in-law, Joseph Fenwick, Sr. and William Brown, Sr., nieces, Loretta Winters and Donna McPherson, nephew, Eric Lee, with whom she had a special bond, and a host of relatives and friends that she truly adored.

Throughout her life, Joan held many jobs, but none was more rewarding than caring for her grandsons, Joe and CJ and sending them off to school each morning. She was known for her wit and wonderful sense of humor. She was a homebody, but occasionally enjoyed going to lunch or dinner with her family if it didn't interfere with her TV shows, especially her soap operas. Her family and friends knew not call or visit her between the hours of 12:30pm to 4:00p.m. One of Joan's greatest pleasures was playing cards every weekend with her family and her weekday Gin Rummy 500 games with her grandson and daughter. Everyone who truly knew Joan felt she was the strongest person they ever knew.

Her viewing will be held on Thursday, April 15th, 8:30am until 9:30am, special tributes 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, LaPlata, Maryland. Interment Church Cemetery.
