Eloise Shepherd Doane finally succumbed to her illnesses at home on April 6, 2010.
She worked for the General Accounting Office in Washington, DC after graduating from Eastern High School. She then transferred to the Naval Supply Office until she married her husband, "Nick;" after that she worked at the Naval Paymaster's Office in Dahlgren, VA until her first child was born. She became a stay-at-home mom, raising her two girls and accompanying her husband to San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Long Beach, and Annapolis while he was in the Navy. When he retired from the Navy, she went to work at the Smithsonian Institution. While at the Smithsonian, she worked in payroll, security, and paleontology. She finished her career in the federal government at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in 1992 - and retired from the federal government after working 43 years. Eloise enjoyed her retirement for 18 years traveling with her husband, "Nick," between their homes in Ocean City and White Plains, MD and visiting Europe to see her daughter and doting on her only grandchild, Mandy. Eloise loved to shop and decorate her homes, the evidence of which remains with us. Daughter of the late Harry Shepherd and the late Josephine Jenkins Shepherd. Predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Harry Shepherd, Jr., and Donald Shepherd. Survived by her husband of 60 years, Leon "Nick" Mayo Doane, Jr; her daughters, Sandra Doane-Johnson of La Plata and Marcy Doane, of London, England; and her only grandchild, Amanda Doane-Johnson, a student at Salisbury University. Visitation: Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 2-6 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, April 12, 2010 at 10 AM at St. Ignatius Catholic Church at Chapel Point, 8855 Chapel Point Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677. Clergy: Father Edward Dougherty.
