Mary Catherine Spalding, 82, of Brandywine, MD, died March 24, 2010, at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.

Mrs. Spalding was a 1946 graduate of the St. Mary's Academy in Leonardtown, MD. In the 1970's she served as a member of the Brandywine Firehouse Auxiliary. A loving wife, the most wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend to all. She loved family gatherings, playing cards, dice and especially talking on the phone. She will be remembered for her kind heart, wonderful compassion and unique ability to make everyone feel special.

Born October 26, 1927, in Hollywood, MD, she was the daughter of the late John Martin Wible and the late Ella Nora Woodley Wible.

Predeceased by her parents; husband, James C. Spalding, Sr.; sons, Stephen M. Spalding, Sr., James C. Spalding, Jr.; grandson, Stephen Michael Spalding, Jr.; granddaughter, Jennifer T. Joiner.

Survived by her daughters, Patricia and her husband Bob Ward of Brandywine, MD; Susan and her husband Gilbert Hood of Charlotte Hall, MD; Phyllis and her husband Glenn Hood of Brandywine, MD; Beverly and her husband Joe Windsor of Upper Marlboro, MD; Carolyn and her husband Danny Gilbert of La Plata, MD; brother, Charles Wible of Hollywood, MD; sister, Agnes Hayden of Georgia. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, Kevin Spalding, Catie DeLauter and her husband Lou, Lisa Wagner and her husband Tommy, Charles Hood IV, Christopher Hood, Catherine Burnett and her husband Paul, Trace Hazel and her husband Tim, Jason Hood, Joseph Windsor, Jr., Jennifer Windsor, Amanda Gilbert and Ashley Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Bella Spalding, Courtney Spalding, Evan DeLauter, Brittany and Tommy Wagner III, Erin and Kathryn Hood, Kaylee, James and Lauren Burnett, and Brandon Hazel.

Visitation will be Monday, March 29, 2010, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 17502 Aquasco Road, Brandywine, MD 20613, with a wake service at 7PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 11AM, at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Fr. Tom Gude will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Charles Hood IV, Christopher Hood, Kevin Spalding, Jason Hood, Joey Windsor, and Tommy Wagner III.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Wible, Robert Ward, Gilbert Hood, Glenn Hood, Joe Windsor, Danny Gilbert, Tommy Wagner II, and Jeffery T. Joiner.

Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
