![]() God looked around his flower garden and saw that he was missing a violet. He saw his precious child had suffered enough, so on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Fort Washington Hospital in Fort Washington, Maryland he reached out his hand and planted her in his heavenly garden.
Dorothy Violet Johnson Washington (Aunt Sookie), was born December 15, 1927, to the late Phillip and the late Cora Ann Swann Johnson, in Pomonkey, Maryland. She was the youngest of five siblings, the late Chester A. Swann; the late Van Swann; the late Francis Swann; and Mary Gladys Johnson Mack. Dorothy attended Pomonkey High School where she met Paul Mckinley Washington (Mac), and they married on February 14, 1953 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Indian Head, Md. Dorothy worked at Ely's Department Store and at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head for a few years and later resigned to become a housewife and mother as she centered all of her energy on her son Lionel, truly she found great joy in having him in her life. Dorothy enjoyed sewing for herself and others and loved to crochet beautiful doiles, and watching the channel 9 soap operas. Left to cherish her special memories are, her husband of 57 years, Paul Mckinley Washington (Mac); son Lionel L. Day (Dawn); beloved sister Mary Gladys Mack; special niece Pamela Day; grandchildren, William Nalborchzy, Steven Dean, Nicoletta Santiago, Trinity Day; sister-in-law Mary W. Frazier and brother-in-law Curtis Washington Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing, 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00am on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland.
