James (Larry) Hawkins at the age of 67, departed this life on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Doctor's Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland. He was surrounded by his family as he quietly slipped away to be with the Lord.

Larry was born to the late Levi and Frances C. Hawkins on January 8, 1943, in Washington, D.C. He was employed at the Naval Research Laboratory and the Naval Surface Warfare Center as a construction worker. Larry was a avid Redskins Fan. He enjoyed several competitive sports, such as bowling, football, baseball and boxing. His musical talents included playing the guitar, violin, banjo and the harmonica. In his spare time, he enjoyed sketching and challenging friends to a game of pool. Although Larry didn't have a family of his own, he often reached out to and mentored youth. He was compassionate, kind-hearted, protective, personable and even liked engaging in a good debate from time to time.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Levi, Reginald, Walter, Patrick, Michael and John and sisters, Frances and Patricia.

Larry leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories: his brother, Nathan; sister, Maria; niece Edith Rebecca (like sister) a host of other nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
