George C. Rees, 88, of Pisgah, MD died on February 19, 2010, after lingering illness.

A veteran of World War II service with U.S. Second Army, Mr. Rees was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge and served with occupation forces in Germany after the war's end. Following military service, his careers as a systems engineer with the Department included his establishing the Naval Sea Systems Command's first electromagnetic compatiblity advisory board and developing the Navy's Board of Inspection and Survey, a feedback system to identify and report electromagnetic interference problems for naval vessels. His projects resulted in new design specifications for radio equpiment on ships. He was the United States representative to and chairman of technical working groups of the International Electrotechnical Commission. Upon his retirement in 1981, the Navy presnted Mr. Rees the Distinguished Civilian Service Award, it's highest honor to civilian personnel.

George Rees was a lifelong Charles County resident and devout member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, where he was a choir member and served on the Vestry. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Indian Head's Perserverance Lodge for over 50 years, and served at length on the Board of Physicians' Memorial Hospital, precursor to Civista Medical Center in La Plata.

Born on April 1, 1921, Mr. Rees was the son of William A. and Dollie C. Rees and was predeceased by his parents and brother, Clinton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothea L. Rees, daughters Diane Couchenour and Lynn Nalley, and grandchildren Eric Baden, Rebecca Cox, and Dorothea and Rees Nalley.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 4 pm until 7 pm with prayers at 6:30 pm. at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home. A service will follow on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 11 am at the Pisgah United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at St. John's Parish Cemetery in Accokeek, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.
