Clara Bell Scott was born on November 13, 1922, in Caroline County, VA. She was born to the late William Stanley and Doretta Moore. She was one of seven children. She was educated in the Virginia Public School System. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Luke Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, VA.

Clara moved to Washington, DC, in the 1940's, where she met and later married the late Bernard R. Scott Sr., on December 23, 1943. From this union, of nearly 50 years, they were blessed with two children, Bernard R. Scott Jr. and Barbara Scott-Ashton. She worked briefly at the Bureau of Engraving in Washington, DC. Her dedication and devotion to her children brought her home to care for them.

She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Washington, DC and later became a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, Fort Washington, MD., where she joined the Jewels Ministry.

She was a devoted, wife and mother and cherished her family above everything else. For years she had been a foster mother to 40 foster children and looked upon as a beloved mother of all. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family. She was a member of the His and Her Social Club. Clara enjoyed traveling and lived life to the fullest.

On December 17, 2006 at 6:00 A.M. at Clinton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Clara Bell Scott entered into eternal rest.

In addition to her husband, Clara is predeceased in death by her brother, William H. Moore (Dickey) sister, Beatrice Moore, granddaughter, Tanika NiShon Ashton and her great-granddaughter, London Troi Page. She leaves to cherish her memories; one son Bernard Jr. (Connie), Fort Washington, MD; daughter Barbara Ashton (John), Clinton, MD; five grandchildren, Lisa Scott, Oxon Hill, MD; Danon Ashton (Stacy), Bowie, MD; Cori Ashton (Akyva), Clinton, MD; Tisha Harrison (Dale), Temple Hills, MD; Tia Page (Greg), Antioch, TN; eleven great-grandchildren, Tiara, Talaya, Jasmine, Kelsey, Bakari, Bilal, Jade, Taylor, Kennedy, Aja, Paige, one great-great grandson Shuccoby, Jr. Devoted foster children; Beverly, Shirley, Eugene, Lester, Pat, William, David, James, Patsy, Idaline, Sabrina, Joe, Eugene, Denise and Jonathan. Two brothers, Robley Moore, Avondale, MD; Walter Moore (Barbara), Fort Washington, MD; two sisters, Gladys Dodson, (James), Ruther Glen, VA; Shirley Peatross, (Lewis), Ruther Glen, VA; A devoted niece, Kathleen Fields (Sis); five sisters-in-law, Anna, Catherine, Doris, Margarite and Shirley; three brothers in-law, Joseph, Lawrence, and Thomas; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her viewing will take place on Friday, December 22, 2006, 9:00a.m. until time of service 11:00a.m. at Ebenezer AME Church, Fort Washington, Maryland. Interment will take place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Maryland. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A.
