![]() Thomas Ruby Swann was born on January 14, 1919 to the late Walter Thomas Swann and the late Mary Lottie (Proctor) Swann in Charles County, Maryland. On February 13, 2010 at his home in La Plata, Maryland, he entered eternal life.
He was educated in the Charles County Public School System. Thomas' first job was working in an Apple Orchard in Port Tobacco, MD. He also worked at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, Maryland for six years, worked on power lines for three years, then he held a job taking ships apart for six years at Popes Creek, and finally in 1967, he went to work for the National Roofing Industry in Cheverly, Maryland until his retirement in 1983. Although Thomas held many other jobs, he was a farmer throughout his life. Thomas also enjoyed going for rides, fishing and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Walter and Mary, Thomas is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and children, William and Doris. Left to cherish many fond memories are his children Annie T. Swann, Joseph T. Swann, Leander H. Swann, Francis J. Swann, James I. Swann, Elizabeth Duckett, John R. Swann, Jackie Woodland, Charles R. Swann, and Catherine Carroll, 31 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, three sisters, four brothers and a host of other relatives and friends. His Viewing will be held on Friday, February 19, 5 to 7pm; Prayers, 6:30pm in the Chapel of THORNTON Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland and on Saturday, February 20, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 8855 Chapel Point Road, Port Tobacco, Maryland, 9am until Mass of Christian Burial, 10am.
