On Thursday, March 9, 2006, Clarence Wayne Newman of Waldorf, Maryland quietly entered into eternal rest at the Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Maryland.

Born on May 2, 1947 in Indian Head, Maryland, Clarence was the son of Evelyn Swann and the late Clarence Newman. He attended Charles County Public Schools and graduated from Pomonkey High School in 1966. Clarence started his employment at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland in 1967. He then moved on to work as an Air Condition Equipment Mechanic at the Washington Naval Yard. In 1998, he retired from the Federal Government with 30 years of service. Later on after retirement he worked part-time as a House Manager at Zeke's House for the Community Council for the Homeless.

Clarence loved taking pictures, traveling, watching TV and fishing. He also was a Master Mason with the Hiram Lodge #4 in Washington, D.C. He was baptized at a very early age in the Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Rodney Young. He was a very loving and caring man.

In addition to his mother, Evelyn, he is also survived by two loving daughters, Charlene Proctor and husband, Bernard; and Ayanna Monique Wood and fiancé Garrett Mitchell, three grandchildren, Kenneth Proctor, Jr., Heru Ashford, and Kendull Proctor, brothers, John Washington, Charles Newman and Spencer Short, sisters, Barbara Jean Bannister and Martha Swales, sister-in-law, Cheryl Washington. Also left to cherish his memories are his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.

His viewing will take place on Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 9:00a.m. until homegoing services begin 11:00a.m. at the Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Nanjemoy, Maryland. Interment Church cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A.
