Vernon Frederick Hardesty, II, 69, of White Plains, MD, died January 31, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Hardesty was a 1959 graduate of Lackey High School where he was captain of the championship basketball team. Following graduation from high school, Mr. Hardesty joined the United States Air Force and served from 1959 to 1963. He then joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #70 and worked his way up to Journeyman Lineman, retiring after 38 years of service. Mr. Hardesty enjoyed wood carving, hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Born April 8, 1940, in La Plata, MD, he was the son of the late Vernon F. Hardesty, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Dove Burroughs Hardesty.

Predeceased by his parents; sister, Margaret Ann Johnson; brother, Don Wayne Hardesty.

Husband of Janice Levin Hardesty; father of Susan L. Green of Lawrence, KS; Sherri J. and her husband Kenneth Bobik of Waldorf, MD; Shawna K. and her husband Mike Norris of Mechanicsville, MD; Kevin V. and his wife Mary Beth Hardesty of Cortland, NY; and Jason L. Hardesty of Waldorf, MD; brother of Carol L. Hiers of Moyock, NC. Also survived by eight grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 5, 2010, from 2-4 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646.

Funeral Service will be Friday, February 5, 2010, at 4 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Mark Roberson will officiate.

Interment will be private at a later date.
