![]() Dorothy May Penn, 88, of Nanjemoy, MD died January 27, 2010 at the Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, MD. She was born February 20, 1921 in Sunbury, PA, and raised in Anacostia in the District of Columbia where she attended Ketcham-Van Buren Elementary School and Eastern High School.
She married David W. Penn on July 11, 1938, and they lived in Hillside, MD until moving to Nanjemoy in Charles County, where she resided until moving to Somerford Place assisted living in Annapolis, MD in 2007. She was a member of the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she served as Treasurer for thirty seven years. She also was an election judge in Charles County. She loved country music and her black Labrador retrievers and beagles, and also enjoyed gardening and canning. She was preceded in death by her husband David on May 11, 1998, and by her sons David W. Penn, Jr. and Lawrence W. Penn and his wife Alice. She is survived by grandchildren Colleen Cano of Owings, MD, Nora Shockley of Huntingtown, MD, Joe Penn of Sunderland, MD, Bill Penn of Ellicott City, MD, and Rick and Rob Penn, both of Warren, Michigan. She is also survived by a sister, Bebe Antonini of Oxon Hill, MD, a daughter-in-law Mary Ann Penn of Owings, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Friends will be received on Wednesday February 3 from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at Rausch Funeral Home, P.A., 8325 Mt. Harmony Lane, Owings, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham at 2:00 PM. Arrangements provided by Rausch Funeral Home. |
