![]() Velma Louis (Michael) Sams, 89, daughter of Leonard Harve and Effie A. Biggs Michael succumbed to a life of many medical complications at her residence in the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. She was born in Marie (Somers County), West Virginia.
She was the wife of the late George Edward Sams, deceased December 30th, 1992. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Larry Edward Sams on August 1st, 2006, great grand child, Kyle Sams in 1998 and James Charles Massey, Jr., her youngest son. She is survived by her children, Dreama Cusic (George) of Mechanicsville, Carol Sams (Roger), Steve Sams of Hollywood, Randy Sams (Sherri) of Lexington Park and Janice Hamby (Paul) of Mechanicsville, MD.; grandchildren, Lisa Dyson and Larry Sams, Jr., Candice Boswell, Stacy Lyons, Mark Cusic, Michelle Bowles, Donna Bernich, Rusty, Connie, Steve, Jr. and Keith Sams, Eddie Sams, Sharon Sams, Mary Bell, Sandy Myers, Hailey Sams, Randy Sams, Jr. and Paul Hamby, Jr and 24 great-great grandchildren. She was predominately a wife, mother and homemaker, although she worked in many fields at different intervals in her life, some of which were hospital cook, motel laundry, bakery and babysitter. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter, craft-maker and cook, beginning with items sewn in the "Old Fashioned Way" by hand or on a peddle sewing machine. When her children were small she did a lot of canning food and processing and preserving meat raised at home, churning milk to make butter, cheese and buttermilk. People lined up to buy any extra she had, and that gave her a little extra income. She loved to play Bingo and go to yard sales. She enjoyed big family get-togethers. She had the opportunity to celebrate her 85th birthday with all her children, grands, greats and friends and plans were in the making to celebrate her 90th in March, but God chose to host her 90th birthday. She was the last of her deceased siblings who were Vida Hutchison, Dorothy Ridgeway, Glendon Michael, Leonard Michael and Vini Michael, all of West Virginia. She still has many nieces and nephews surviving. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace with our God in heaven.
